Operation Manual – LoginH3C S3100 Series Ethernet Switches Chapter 4 Logging in Using a Modem4-1Chapter 4 Logging in Using a Modem4.1 IntroductionThe administrator can log into the Console port of a remote switch using a modemthrough public switched telephone network (PSTN) if the remote switch is connected tothe PSTN through a modem to configure and maintain the switch remotely. When anetwork operates improperly or is inaccessible, you can manage switches in thenetwork remotely in this way.To log into a switch in this way, you need to configure the administrator side and theswitch properly, as listed in the following table.Table 4-1 Requirements for logging into a switch using a modemItem RequirementThe PC can communicate with the modem connected to it.The modem is properly connected to PSTN.AdministratorsideThe telephone number of the switch side is available.The modem is connected to the Console port of the switch properly.The modem is properly configured.The modem is properly connected to PSTN and a telephone set.Switch sideThe authentication mode and other related settings are configuredon the switch.
