Operation Manual – MulticastH3C S5600 Series Ethernet Switches Chapter 4 PIM Configuration4-20Caution:If the number of existing PIM neighbors exceeds the user-defined limit, the existing PIMneighbors will not be deleted.4.4.4 Configuring Multicast Source LifetimeInitially, some data is lost when multicast receivers receive multicast data from amulticast source. The reason is that (S, G) entries in the PIM routing table and multicastrouting table age out if no data stream is received within a configurable period of time, known as multicast source lifetime or (S, G) aging time. These entries need to bereestablished before the corresponding multicast data can be forwarded by themulticast switch again. In the process of table entry reestablishment, some data may belost. If the multicast source lifetime is appropriately lengthened when the data traffic hasstopped, the multicast data, when arriving at the multicast switch again, can beforwarded by the switch without the need of reestablishing the table entries. This helpsavoid data loss.Follow these steps to configure multicast source lifetime:To do... Use the command... RemarksEnter system view system-view —Enter PIM view pim —Configure multicastsource lifetime source-lifetime interval Optional210 seconds by defaultCaution:The configured multicast source lifetime applies to all (S, G) entries in the PIM routingtable and the multicast routing table rather than to a specific (S, G) entry, and theconfiguration changes the aging time of all the existing (S, G) entries.4.4.5 Clearing the Related PIM EntriesYou can execute the reset command in user view to clear the related statistics aboutmulticast PIM.
