7-38Cylinder head012345678910ARemoving the cylinder head1. Remove the valve lifters from the cylinderhead.2. Remove the cylinder head bolts in thesequence numbers (a, b, · · ·).NOTICE: Do not scratch or damagethe mating surfaces of the cylinderhead and cylinder block.3. Remove the intake and exhaust valves.TIP:Make sure to keep the valves, springs, andother parts in the order as they wereremoved.Checking the valve lifter1. Check the valve lifters. Replace if dam-aged, scratched, or worn.2. Measure the valve lifter outside diameter.Replace if out of specification.Checking the cylinder head1. Eliminate carbon deposits from the com-bustion chambers and check for deterio-ration.2. Check the cylinder head warpage using astraightedge a and thickness gauge bin the directions shown.
