8-81LOWR Lower unit8. Check that the drive shaft rotatessmoothly. If the drive shaft does notrotate smoothly, reduce the shim(s) (T1)thickness by 0.1 mm, and then check thatthe rotation of the shaft again.9. Install the shim(s) (T2) g determined in“Adjusting the forward gear shimthickness (T2)” (8-76).TIP:Do not reuse a shim if it is any deformed orscratched.10. Install the propeller shaft housingassembly h, and key i.TIP:When assembling the lower unit to measurethe backlash, do not install the dog clutch andO-ring.11. Install the claw washer. Check that theposition b is set in place properly.12. Install the ring nut, and then tighten thering nut to the specified torque.13. Check that the drive shaft rotatessmoothly. If the drive shaft does notrotate smoothly, the shim(s) may beinstalled incorrectly or there may beforeign material on the shim(s).14. Measure the reverse gear backlash.
