Check the cooling water inlet covers andcooling water inlets. Clean if clogged.TIP:Mark a the trim tab b at the area shown,and then remove it.3. Install the cooling water inlet covers aand trim tab b, and then tighten thescrew c and bolt d to the specifiedtorque.4. Place the lower unit in water, and thenstart the engine.5. Check for water flow at the cooling waterpilot hole. If there is no water flow, checkthe cooling water passage inside theoutboard motor.Checking the engine idle speed1. Start the engine and warm up until theengine idle speed is stable at 650–750 r/min.2. Check the engine idle speed using theYamaha genuine tachometer (on-boardmeter) or using the YDIS. To connect andoperate the YDIS, see the YDIS (Ver.1.30 or later) Instruction Manual.Checking the engine oil level1. Check the engine oil level. See “Check-ing the engine oil level” (10-5).Changing the engine oilChange the engine oil after the first 20hours of operation or 3 months, and every100 hours or at 1-year intervals thereafter.Otherwise the engine will wear quickly.The engine oil should be extracted with an oilchanger.1. Put the outboard motor in an uprightposition (not tilted). NOTICE: If the out-board motor is not level, the oil levelindicated on the dipstick may not beaccurate.2. Start the engine. Warm it up and keepthe idle speed for 5–10 minutes.3. Stop the engine and leave it for 5–10minutes.4.
