Password Management Commands 150369Password Management CommandsDell Networking N2000/N3000/N4000 Series SwitchesThe Password Management component supports the features below.Passwords are masked when entered by the user and in the running config.Configurable Minimum Password LengthThe administrator has the option of requiring user passwords to be aminimum length. The administrator can choose to have the switch enforce aminimum length between 8 and 64 characters. The default minimum lengthis 8 although there is no default password (zero length string).Password HistoryKeeping a history of previous passwords ensures that users cannot reusepasswords often. The administrator can configure the switch to store up to 10of the last passwords for each user. The default operation is that no history isstored.Password AgingThe switch can implement an aging process on passwords and require users tochange them when they expire. The administrator can configure the switch toforce a password change between 1 and 365 days. By default, password agingis disabled. When a password expires, the user must enter a new passwordbefore continuing.User LockoutThe administrator may choose to strengthen the security of the switch byenabling the user lockout feature. A lockout count between 1 and 5 attemptscan be configured. When a lockout count is configured, then a user that islogging in must enter the correct password within that count. Otherwise, thatuser is locked out form further remote switch access. Only an administratorwith read/write access can reactivate that user. The user lockout feature is
