Operation Manual – MulticastH3C S7500 Series Ethernet Switches Chapter 2 GMRP Configuration2-1Chapter 2 GMRP Configuration2.1 GMRP OverviewGMRP (GARP Multicast Registration Protocol), based on GARP, is used formaintaining multicast registration information of the switch. All GMRP-capable switchescan receive multicast registration information from other switches, dynamically updatelocal multicast registration information, and send their own local multicast registrationinformation to other switches. This information switching mechanism keepsconsistency of the multicast information maintained by every GMRP-supporting devicein the same switching network.A host sends a GMRP Join message, if it is interested in joining a multicast group. Afterreceiving the message, the switch adds the port on which the message was received tothe multicast group, and broadcasts the message throughout the VLAN where thereceiving port resides. In this way, the multicast source in the VLAN gets aware of theexistence of the multicast group member. When the multicast source sends multicastpackets to a group, the switch only forwards the packets to ports connected to themembers of that group, thereby implementing Layer 2 multicast in the VLAN.2.2 Configuring GMRPThe main tasks in GMRP configuration include:z Enable GMRP globallyz Enable GMRP on a portGMRP must be enabled globally before it is enabled on a port.2.2.1 Enabling GMRP GloballyFollow these steps to enable GMRP globally:To do... Use the command...
