Operation Manual – MulticastH3C S7500 Series Ethernet Switches Chapter 4 Common Multicast Configuration4-1Chapter 4 Common Multicast Configuration4.1 OverviewCommon multicast configuration tasks are the common contents of the multicast groupmanagement protocol and the multicast routing protocol. You must enable the commonmulticast configuration on the switch before enabling the two protocols.Common multicast configuration includes:z Configuring limit on the number of route entries: when the multicast routingprotocol is configured on a switch, plenty of multicast route entries will be sent toupstream Layer 3 switches or routers. In order to prevent plenty of multicast routeentries from consuming all the memory of the Layer 3 switches or routers, you canconfigure limit on the number of route entries to prevent too many route entriesfrom being sent to Layer 3 switches or routers.z Configuring suppression on the multicast source port: In the network, some usersmay set up multicast servers privately, which results in the shortage of multicastnetwork resources and affects the multicast bandwidth and the transmission ofvalid information in the network. You can configure suppression on the multicastsource port to filter multicast packets on the unauthorized multicast source port, soas to prevent the users connected to the port from setting up multicast serversprivately.z Clearing the related multicast entries: through clearing the related multicastentries, you can clear the multicast route entries saved in the memory of the Layer3 switches or routers to release the system memory.4.2 Common Multicast ConfigurationComplete the following tasks to perform common multicast configuration:Task RemarksEnabling Multicast and Configuring Limit on the Number ofRoute Entries RequiredConfiguring Suppression on the Multicast Source Port OptionalConfiguring Suppression on Multicast Wrongif Packets OptionalConfiguring Static Router Ports OptionalClearing Multicast Related Entries Optional
