1.6 Safety during maintenance and repair1.6.1 Safety during maintenance and repairGeneralCorrective maintenance must only be carried out by personnel trained on the robot.Maintenance or repair must be done with all electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulicpower switched off, that is, no remaining hazards.Hazards due to stored mechanical energy in the manipulator for the purpose ofcounterbalancing axes must be considered before maintenance or repair.Never use the robot as a ladder, which means, do not climb on the controller, manipulator, including motors, or other parts. There are hazards of slipping andfalling. The robot might be damaged.Make sure that there are no loose screws, turnings, or other unexpected partsremaining after work on the robot has been performed. When the work is completed, verify that the safety functions are working asintended.Hot surfacesSurfaces can be hot after running the robot, and touching these may result in burns.Allow the surfaces to cool down before maintenance or repair.Allergic reactionElimination/ActionDescriptionWarningMake sure that protective gearlike goggles and gloves are al-ways worn. When working with lubricantsthere is a risk of an allergic reac-tion.Allergic reactionGearbox lubricants (oil or grease)When handling oil, grease, or other chemical substances the safety information ofthe respective manufacturer must be observed.NoteTake special care when handling hot lubricants.Elimination/ActionDescriptionWarningMake sure that protective gearlike goggles and gloves are al-ways worn during this activity.Changing and draining gearboxoil or grease may require hand-ling hot lubricant heated up to90 °C.Hot oil or greaseContinues on next pageProduct manual - IRB 6710 293HAC085695-001 Revision: A© Copyright 2023 ABB.
