The entire device name does not need to be entered; onlyenough letters of the name to distinguish it from any other configured device name. Forexample, you could entercall device sm if there are no other devices whose names beginwithsm. The call device command can be used to test the Dial Out capability to a specificdevice. This command is available only when the Authentication mode is “On-node DeviceTable.” To obtain the device name, enter the Manage Mode and issue thedevice command.Note that the device name is case sensitive.To use this command for troubleshooting, you must use the System Call Trace feature tocapture any connect and disconnect messages that are generated by issuing thecall devicecommand. To do this:1. Erase the current report log by enteringer at the system prompt.2. Enable the Call Trace feature by enteringtrace on at the system prompt.3. Issue thecall device name> command.4. Display the system log messages by entering thedr command at the system prompt.5. Check the log report for connect messages relating to the remote device you are testing.In response to thecall device command, one of the following responseswill be displayed:Calling device Indicates that a call request process has been initiated. name> could not be found in the Device TableIndicates that the device name could not be found in the table of configured device names. name> is already connectedIndicates that a connection to a device can not be initiated if there is already a connectionto that device. The call device command cannot be used to increase bandwidth for anexisting connection.Call attempt failedIndicates that the request could not be executed.More than one match for name> found in the Device TableDisplayed if you enter just part of a device name and that part could specify more than onedevice name. You will be prompted to enter the device name again, in a more specificmanner. For example, ifcall device Sch is entered, and there is a device configuredwith the name Schultz, and a device configured with the name Schmidt, this messagewould be displayed. You would then need to enter at leastcall device Schu tosuccessfully initiate a call to the device Schultz.
