Workgroup Remote Access Switch 69ACCESSING THE C YBERSWITCHMaking ConnectionsREMOTE CONNECTION USING TELNETYou can access the CyberSWITCH with Telnet. To do this, you must use Telnet client software.TheCyberSWITCH has default IP addresses configured to allow Telnet access. The default LAN IPaddress is 1.1.1.1. To access the CyberSWITCH you must set the device’s IP address to be on thesame subnet as the CyberSWITCH. We recommend that you use 1.1.1.2 and do this on a LAN thatis not connected to the internet. Then place the CyberSWITCH on the LAN and Telnet to theaddress. This default address allows immediate access to the system for installation purposes. Be sure tochange this IP address as soon as possible to one on your local subnet.Note: Do NOT place more than one CyberSWITCH on a LAN with the default setting. With bothhaving the same IP address, unpredictable results will occur. You may also Telnet in via the WAN connection. The general procedures are:1. Connect the system to the (WAN) ISDN line.2. From a remote device that supports unnumbered IP connections, dial in as a PPP CHAP deviceUSER1 (USER1 as secret). Provide Telnet with the CyberSWITCH address.3. From a remote device only supporting numbered IP connections, set up an IP Address 2.2.2. 3and have it dial as a PPP CHAP device USER2 (USER2 as secret). Provide Telnet with theCyberSWITCH address of 2.2.2.2.After you make a Telnet connection, you will be presented with a login prompt. Proceed toEstablishing an Administrative Session. For more information on Telnet, refer to the Remote Management chapter.REMOTE CONNECTION USING A M ODEMIn order to establish an administration session via an analog line, you must have a preconfiguredmodem for attachment to the CyberSWITCH. Note that the modem is NOT configurable through theCyberSWITCH! The modem must be configured to a baud rate that is either equal to or less thanthat of the CyberSWITCH.Once the modem is properly configured, attach it to the serial port of the CyberSWITCH. You maynow access the CyberSWITCH through a remote PC and modem by dialing into the modemattached to the CyberSWITCH. Note that the CyberSWITCH supports dual usage of its serial portfor either async-PPP data transfer or administration console management. Async-PPP data transfer(through autosense mode) is the default. To establish an administration console session from the remote site, the remote user must type fourcarriage returns within five seconds of call connection. Refer to Resources and the backgroundinformation for the COMMPORT for additional information. Refer to Configuring Changes for aCOMMPORT Resource to change defaults.
