After the accumulated penalty exceeds the suppress threshold value, theinterface moves to the Error-Disabled state. This interface state is deemed as “down” by all static/dynamic Layer 2and Layer 3 protocols. The penalty is exponentially decayed based on the half-life timer. After the penalty decaysbelow the reuse threshold, the interface enables. The configured parameters are as follows:• suppress-threshold should be greater than reuse-threshold• max-suppress-time should be at least 4 times half-lifeNOTE: You cannot apply dampening on an interface that is monitoring traffic for other interfaces.Example Dell(conf-if-te-1/1/6/1)# dampening 20 800 4500 120Dell(conf-if-te-1/1/6/1)#Related Commands • clear dampening — clear the dampening counters on all the interfaces or just the specified interface.• show interfaces dampening — display interface dampening information.descriptionAssign a descriptive text string to the interface.Syntax description desc_textTo delete a description, use the no description command.Interfaces 667
