Version Description7.4.1.0 Introduced on the E-Series.Usage Information With each flap, the system penalizes the interface by assigning a penalty (1024) thatdecays exponentially depending on the configured half-life. After the accumulatedpenalty exceeds the suppress threshold value, the interface moves to the Error-Disabled state. This interface state is deemed as “down” by all static/dynamic Layer 2and Layer 3 protocols. The penalty is exponentially decayed based on the half-lifetimer. After the penalty decays below the reuse threshold, the interface enables. Theconfigured parameters are as follows:• suppress-threshold should be greater than reuse-threshold• max-suppress-time should be at least 4 times half-lifeNOTE: You cannot apply dampening on an interface that is monitoring traffic forother interfaces.Example Dell(conf-if-te-2/2)# dampening 20 800 4500 120Dell(conf-if-te-2/2)#RelatedCommands • clear dampening — clears the dampening counters on all the interfaces or just thespecified interface.• show interfaces dampening — displays interface dampening information.descriptionAssign a descriptive text string to the interface.C9000 SeriesSyntax description desc_textTo delete a description, use the no description command.Parameters desc_text Enter a text string up to 240 characters long.Defaults noneCommand Modes INTERFACECommand History This guide is platform-specific.
